Last Saturday, March 4, 2024, I enjoyed attending the Chrysalis Pre-Mother's Day Brunch, an event filled with incredible artists, entertainment, and an abundance of sisterhood. Before delving into the event's vibrancy, I'd like to introduce you to The Chrysalis Program and its inspiring founder, Asha Ntim.
The Chrysalis Program, a beacon of hope and empowerment, was born from the visionary mind of Asha Ntim, the author of the empowering D.A.R.K. Brown Girl book series. Recognizing the critical need for Black girls to be affirmed and celebrated, she established the non-profit organization, The Chrysalis Program, to address this need. With its Saturday sessions, summer camps, glamping retreats, and more, this program is not just a program. Still, it is a lifeline for these young women, providing them invaluable support and guidance.
Additionally, she extends her generosity to mothers and women, offering them spaces for relaxation, rejuvenation, and empowerment. The Pre-Mother's Day Brunch is just one of the many uplifting events hosted by The Chrysalis Program.
About the Event
The atmosphere at the brunch was electric, with performances by spoken word artists such as
T'Aura, She.Unapologetic, and Jason Williams. The event kicked off with the soulful melodies of songstress Stormy Martin, who captivated the audience with heartfelt renditions of the Mama Song by Boys II Men and Bad Mamma Jamma by Carl Carlton. Her engaging presence and powerful vocals set the tone for this unforgettable experience.
Host Lyssa Laird's comedic talents kept us in stitches throughout the event, while Miracle Leach blessed us with her angelic voice, accompanied by the enchanting sounds of a violinist, Elizabeth Johnson. The entertainment was complemented by a delectable spread of food, featuring smothered chicken, salmon, shrimp, grits, fruits, bacon, mimosas, and an assortment of desserts catered by the talented Chef Robin, Chef Jacynthia, Chef Naomi and Krispy Kreme.
Yet, beyond the exceptional performances and culinary delights, what truly made the event remarkable was the palpable sense of love and sisterhood that enveloped the room. In the company of fellow attendees, I felt not just uplifted and supported, but a part of a larger community. It was a celebration of motherhood, womanhood, and the unbreakable bonds that unite us all.
As I reflect on my experience at the Chrysalis Pre-Mother's Day Brunch, I am filled with deep gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of such a joyous occasion. The memories and the sense of community I experienced are something I will cherish. I eagerly look forward to future events hosted by The Chrysalis Program and encourage others to register , donate, or volunteer for this worthy cause.
