I Know I Can

Anytime I think about this subject, I think about the movie Kill Bill: Vol 1 when the main character, The Bride, wakes up from a coma, finds her way to the infamous wagon and commands her big toe to wiggle. To spare us the actual time it took for her body to believe her mind, we see shortly her big toe wiggling.


I think about how a lot of aspects of my life are in a coma. I also wondered if my body is waiting for the mental signal to move ahead. I’m sure there are a lot of things my body and heart wants to do but can’t move forward until my mind is made up.

The mind has a way to push us past our limits without our knowledge. It is true that anything we put our minds to can come in fruition no matter the obstacles. I believe that is where the concise phrase “Mind Over Matter” derived from. My mind is stronger than any obstacle that can prohibit me from reaching a goal. Your mind is stronger than any obstacle that may prohibit your progress.

So now that we have this knowledge, how do we wake up our mental signals to get things going?

1. Tunnel Focus

We never stop wanting things. We never stop desiring change or improvement. Sometimes these thoughts get so overwhelming our mind shut down due to exhaustion. Like with anything, you have to tackle one thing at a time. By doing this, it may seem like you are on the slow track but fast isn’t always a good thing. Choose one thing you want to tackle and set your mind on that one thing. Research ways to accomplish this one thing and set small goals until it’s achieved.

2. Affirmations

I talk about affirmations a lot but memorization is a great way to ignite the mental signals. Write down where you want to be or the type of person you want to be and repeat it in the mirror everyday. This is a constant reminder of your goal. I am a firm believer that writing things down breathes life into a goal… so imagine how much power reciting a goal could be.

3. Stay Encouraged

Make an encouragement notebook that contains all positive quotes. If you don’t have time to copy and paste them into a word Doc in your phone. Some people write it down on a sticky note in a convenient spot to read the quote. You can choose any way you want to do it. The idea is to keep you pumped in times progress seem stagnate. By keeping the mind encouraged the body and heart will follow.

These three things are just a smidget of techniques that can wake up your mental signals.

And if you feel yourself falling back into that slump coma, just remember you have the mental capacity to wiggle your toe.
